Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz A Cuban revolutionary and politician, having held the position of Prime Minister of Cuba from 1959 to 1976, and then became president from 1976 to 2008. Politically a Marxist, under his administration the Republic of Cuba was converted into a socialist state, that way implementing socialist reforms in all areas of society.
Son of a wealthy farmer, Castro became involved in the anti-imperialism politics while studying laws in the University of Havana. Involving himself in the armed rebellions against the conservatism in Dominic Republic, he concluded that Current president Fulgencio Batista, had to be overthrown. After failing his first attempt to overthrow Batista, he travel to Mexico to aid his brother Raul Castro and Che Guevara, whit whom he assembled a group of Cuban revolutionaries. Then he went back to Cuba, taking a key role on the revolution, leading a succesfull guerrilla who defeated and overthrew Batista's army, like that taking power over Cuba.
In 2006, a Castro s health started to get worse, transfering his respnsabilties to vice-president Raul Castro, who then came to power when Fidel stepped down in 2008.

Raúl Modesto Castro Ruz is a Cuban politician and revolutionary who has been President of the Council of State of Cuba and the President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba since 2008; as mentioned, he came to power of Cuba after his brother Fidel Castro stepped down on power due to health issues. He was the leader of the revolutionary army in 1950. After his brother stepped down, Raul Castro was one of the most important figures in the new regime. Furthermore in to his career, Raul Castro is also the Chief of the Armed forces of Cuba, which includes the Army, Navy, and Air Forces.
